Hello and welcome! My name is Andrew Wright and I’m a physiotherapist and philosopher with an interest in pain.
I worked as a physiotherapist in the NHS and private practice from qualification in 1986 until 2007. My interest in pain began early in my career, so when knee pain stopped me practicing I decided to go back to school.
In 2009/10 I completed my MSc in Pain: science and society at Kings College London under Dr. Mick Thacker. While there I became interested in pain concepts. The following year I completed my MA in philosophy at the University of Birmingham, then successfully completed my PhD in 2015. In my PhD thesis I presented a novel theoretical model of pain.
During my time at Birmingham I organised a successful interdisciplinary workshop on pain. This spawned a special edition of the Journal of Consciousness Studies, which I edited and contributed to. I also have a chapter in the Routledge Handbook of Philosophy of Pain. Currently, I am concluding a paper on the nociceptive system.
I’ve started this blog in order to share my work on pain.
